SUCCESS STORIES

Jonathan is an awesome personal trainer and all-around good guy.  He motivates me to work hard, constantly pushing me to reach new levels in a safe and sensible way.  He knows his stuff, bringing a wide range of programs and exercises that keep our workouts fresh and fast-moving. He's reliable, consistent, and flexible: all critical qualities in character that you'd want in a trainer. But most importantly, I'm seeing results - I feel stronger, more flexible, and much healthier since we've been training together.

I am a 77 year old energetic, fully functioning woman thanks to Jonathan. I attribute my good health, both mentally and physically to my three day a week training for the last 15 years. Two years ago, I underwent shoulder surgery and with his professional guidance, I resumed my normal activities within a very short amount of time.

I have been a three time a week personal training guy since 1989. In July 2003 I had back surgery after seven years of increasing pain from chronic injuries. I had just started my training with Jon Sabino, who had impressed me during the several times he had worked as a stand-in for my previous trainer. When we both realized that my training was being compromised and that surgery was necessary, we took a two-month break for me to recoup. In the 13+ years that I’ve been working with Jon, I’ve never had a serious injury. My ability to function within the gym has remained almost consistent, except age has taken its inevitable toll. I’m not sure where I’d be without Jon and his dedication to his profession, but I don’t think I’d be in the physical or mental condition he has help me maintain throughout the years.

To say that Jonathan changed my life is no hyperbole. After eating terribly and partying in college, I was heading down an unhealthy path. College was over with, but my unhealthy lifestyle was not. Jonathan started off slowly, teaching me everything I needed to know about proper lifting techniques, breahting, eating, movement, and everything else. He taught me not only about how to workout properly, but how to change my mental space. I started off curling five pound dumbbells, and now I can curl 40. I'm strong mentally and physically, and there is no question I would not be where I am today without him.

Thanks to Jon Sabino, I have not pulled or sprained anything in two years. It used to be a monthly occurrence, but Jon analyzed the frequent problem areas and strengthened muscles in and around those points. Stretching and functional strengthening allowed me to continue living a full and active lifestyle. From day one, Jon’s thoughtful and gentle approach allowed me to tone and strengthen without straining or injury. He knows just when to kick it up a notch or ease into it with carefully structured routines that allow core strength to grow in a deliberate way.

I hate working out. I mean, I really hate it. I hate the clothing, the movements, the sweating, the whole thing. Working out was always a chore for me, which is why, after having two kids, I gained more than 50 pounds. I worked out with other trainers, but gave up after finding my workouts boring. After I met Jon, my thoughts about fitness completely changed. While I still hate sweating, I now understand I am taking care of myself during my sessions and my body and mindset are completely changing because of him.

Plagued with a nagging hip injury and failed sessions with other trainers who swore they knew their stuff, I reluctantly hired Jonathan, and prepared for more pain and failure. Boy was I wrong! After a month, I not only had more mobility, I had a better attitude and I was getting stronger. He knew what to do and when to do it, and whenever I tried to push myself and got frustrated that I wasn't lifting heavy enough, Jonathan reminded me about the importance of using a scientific program that focused on mobility, strength, and endurance. I now understand why Jonathan has had clients for 20 years!

When Jonathan told me about Cart to Core, I didn't think much of it because I always thought I ate healthy and didn't need help at the grocery store. After meeting Jonathan for two sessions at Stop and Shop, I now understand how to navigate the store with confidence. Jonathan helped me to understand how much sugar I was really consuming, and how the snacks I was feeding my kids were not setting them up for success. His gentle conversations never made me feel bad, and I now make healthier choices.

My Fitness Journey

My Fitness Journey

I believe in the power of storytelling as a source of inspiration, and sometimes, all it takes is hearing someone else's journey to get started on yours!

As a 12 year old, chubby kid, I was constantly getting picked on, and this didn’t stop once I got home. Desperate to find a healthy outlet, I walked into Bev Francis, a bodybuilding heavyweight gym down the road from my house. Through my many interactions with Bev and the bodybuilders in the gym, I gained knowledge and most importantly, a lifelong passion for fitness. I continued to workout through my high school years, becoming a stronger and more dedicated athlete on the lacrosse and football field, where I ranked 8th as a defensive linemen in my conference.

After high school, I tried to remain fit, but my days were spent sitting behind a desk at an accounting firm eating fast food and drinking soda. I also started smoking cigarettes, and felt that I was losing sight of who I used to be. I continued in this vicious cycle until I had an aha moment, which occurred when I found myself gasping for air while walking up the stairs to my father’s house. Enough was enough. I needed to make a permanent change.

Armed with fitness knowledge from the gym as well as my many years as an athlete, I knew what I needed to do. I read as much as I could, and completely changed my body and mind. As I became more fit and passionate, I understood my calling. I wanted to dedicate my life to becoming a certified, passionate, skilled, and dedicated personal trainer. I completed my first certification in 2001, and have been changing lives ever since.

I share my experiences in the hopes that it will inspire you and help you to see that we all start somewhere. Whether you are already healthy and fit, you've never lifted a weight in your life, or you are overcoming personal struggles, I can help you on your journey. We all have a story. Let me help you write yours.
